Acromioclavicular Joint Instability

The acromioclavicular joint is present at the top of the shoulder and is formed by the clavicle and the shoulder blade. Direct injury to this area may result in acromioclavicular joint instability. Symptoms include pain at the top of the shoulder, swelling, and loss of mobility. The condition may be diagnosed by physical examination and x-rays. Treatment options include physical therapy or surgery depending on the severity of the acromioclavicular joint instability.
