Ischial Femoral Impingement

Ischial femoral impingement is a rare cause of hip pain which occurs when there is narrowing of space between the hip bone (ischium) and thigh bone (femur). This condition causes pain in the hip, groin, and buttocks region. A diagnosis is based on signs and symptoms, a physical examination and imaging studies (X-rays and MRI). Conservative treatment such as physical therapy to strengthen the thigh and hip muscles is usually effective. Minimally invasive surgical resection may be considered if non-surgical treatment fails to resolve the condition.
