Posterior Snapping Hip (Hamstring Over Ischial Tuberosity)
A poster snapping hip is characterized by a palpable or audible snapping of the hamstring tendon over the bones at the bottom of your pelvis (ischial tuberosity) during active hip flexion. During a physical exam, the subluxation of the tendon can be palpated with full flexion of the abducted hip. Conservative treatment includes resting, application of ice, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication and physical therapy. If conservative treatments fail, surgical treatment options include partial cutting of the tendon (tenotomy) or partial tenotomy with tendon transfer.
