PRP for Tendonitis/Partial Tear

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy is a novel approach to promote healing and regeneration of soft tissues, especially the tendons and ligaments. PRP is the plasma obtained from the individual’s own blood sample and is rich in platelets and growth factors. It may also include white blood cells (leukocytes), blood clotting protein called fibrin and certain bioactive proteins.

Tendonitis refers to the inflammation of the tendons and a tendon tear may occur due to excessive pulling, friction or injury. PRP therapy may be suggested to treat tendonitis or partial tears by injecting the patient’s own PRP into the injured region. After injection, the PRP activate and proliferate into new tissues.

Advantages include safety as the PRP is extracted from the person’s own body, promotes natural and rapid healing and has minimum adverse effects.
